Last Saturday when my wife and I went to Batu Lanchang wet market (afternoon/evening session) to do a little marketing we both stumble on the durian which label as “ang heh” (it is hokkien dialect which means red shrimp). Since my wife hasn’t tried this brand of durian before, so we both bought 3 durians of that brand.

Now the price of durian is a bit cheaper already. It could be ending of the durian season I suppose.

Desmond's Gift, Ezy Roller

Last Sunday (14 Jun), my wife and I attend my boss’s son (named Desmond) 5th birthday party. The party is started at 7pm but we reach his house at about 7:15pm. When we arrived, a few of my colleagues already there too! It is a buffet style of party, and there are varieties of good food already been served to guests. At about 7:30pm, we can see more and more guests are coming already and making the whole situation so merrier. Well, for adults, of course foods are all we enjoying for besides chatting and make new friends to each other. While for kids, they sure will have their own activities to play around.

The cake-cutting ceremony took placed at 9pm. As usual, after the cake-cutting, Desmond was so excited to open up the gifts that he received. So, he and his friends are busy themselves with all those gifts. Wow! Ezy roller is the most preferable gift that Desmond received from his Uncle James. Desmond’s mommy is present him a personalized children’s plates where printed on the back of the plate with “Happy 5th Birthday to Desmond”; while Desmond’s daddy is present him a toddler backpacks where there is an embroidery of “Desmond” in front of the backpack. All those makes the gifts are so special and unique!

About time 10pm, we (my wife and I) and some of our colleagues left the party.

I stumbled on this nice site called “Posy Lane” yesterday. You can find almost anything you need via this site related to gifts, invitations and embroidery.

I show my wife the personalized towel wrap that she’s eagerly to have one when I was on business trip in United State last year. She asked me to buy one for her. Too bad, I can’t really find the taste that she likes and just managed to buy her a plain white towel wrap only! In the website, the towel wraps are so colorful and overall have nine colors and three sizes namely child, teen and adult. My wife loves the pink and purple towel. I'm back to live

I’ve been missing in action for so long, finally I’m back to live! I quite busy lately after our management have make an announcement that 2 of our factory plants will be shutdown this coming year end and all products, equipments as well as employees will be transferred from Penang to another state. I need to work out with my boss related the equipments and head count that need to be transferred to there. Anyway, I will try my best to find some time to update my blog!

As I mention in my Penangzone.com blog, my new hobby is to fly stunt kite. This season in Penang, it is kind of hard to have a strong wind blow during evening and night time except in the afternoon where the wind blows strongly. In order for me to have chance to play my kite, I have to fly it at afternoon then! Poor me, the sun at afternoon usually is very hot and the Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the component of sunlight which is harmful to my skin and might cause sunburns and sometimes even get skin cancer. So normally before I started flying my kite, I will for sure to apply the Sunburn cream and wear my Nike sunglasses that I purchase online from Shop Wiki website.

"Lichun" festival at Kek Lok Si Temple

In traditional Chinese Culture, “Lichun” (立春) is a solar term marking the beginning of spring in East Asian cultures. For Year 2009, Lichun is started on 21st Jan till 25th Jan. And Chinese New Year is celebrated around this time which falls on 26th Jan and 27th Jan.

During “Lichun” many temples in Penang will have a prayer (by monks) and “lantern-lite-up” ceremony. The purpose of the ceremony is to worship and offerings to the gods and ceremonies for a blissful and prosperous new year (2009).

On 30 Dec 2008 (Monday), my wife and I, we went to Kek Lok Si Temple to make a donation for the “lantern-lite-up” ceremony on 21st Jan (which is the 1st day of Lichun). Upon making the donation, the person in charge in the temple will write down our name and our prayer or wishes in a piece of paper. My wife and I, we pray and wish for love, peace, harmony, healthy and prosperous New Year.

Right after we make the donation, the person in charge handover this red packet for us. Inside the packet is consists of items like below picture.

I would like to share a few photos of Kek Lok Si Temple that I taken during Chinese New Year 2007. The temple is so impressive with thousands of lights. All the lanterns in the temple are the donations from Chinese community from Penang especially, other states in Malaysia and even from tourist.

In the 20 century, almost everyone of us owned a credit card. For me, credit card is a MUST item as when I have a business trip to oversea, all the expenses like payment for hotel accommodation, car rental and etc is all done by using credit card. Usually, before ones have a business trip to oversea, our company will asked that employee to apply AMEX Corporate Credit Cards. AMEX has a very good reputation as well as a very good system. Everytime when I have my shopping especially in US, I got a special discount rate.

For my personal usage credit cards, I have CITI credit cards, HSBC credit cards and Maybank credit cards. But so far I consolidate all my payment by using Maybank VISA card because it is a zero interest credit card when I did my purchase from retail stores.

A lot of people actually owe money to credit cards but I suggest what we can do is to joining up all credit card balance transfer scheme. This will help to reduce some monthly or yearly interest. But I urged to all that do not owe any credits to bank. Buy whatever we afford to buy and don’t over spend. Good luck!

During my first trip to USA 4 years ago, my wife and I visited Disneyland. I was so attracted by this water tumbler and decided to purchase it from the retail store. I get many freebies upon purchase and also can have a free soft drinks fill up in the tumbler. I like the design and I think it is special and beautiful that is why I bought it. But I dare not to use this tumbler to work...ending up this tumbler is a kind of souvenir and I placed it in cabinet for displaying only...hehehe

Recently I have put on weight and that’s worrying me much. I was thinking whether or not to follow my wife to attend yoga class. Anyway, I’m still thinking as I’m not sure that I’m going to like yoga or not! What a big deal, I can always do other type of exercises instead of yoga right? But, due to I have slipped disc problem, I can’t do many types of exercises. According to doctor’s advice, yoga and swimming are suits me most.

Since today is Saturday and I’m dillydallying at home doing nothing, so I log on to the shopping site Shop Wiki to look for yoga mat. I prefer to shop online via Shop Wiki as it has 30,000 stores compared to other shopping sites that usually have about 1,000 stores only. So I can find almost anything I need via Shop Wiki.

During last business trip to United States, I need to transit at Hong Kong. And the duration for the transit is 6 hours. It is a long hour to go! Nowadays, everyone is talking about technology. Technology has its pro and con. With technology, it can improve our life and make our life easier but in the other hand, it might worsen our health. Why I say so? It’s because of “lazy” man only can think of shortcut way to improve their life or simplify the process to so-called “technology”. Let’s take staircase and escalator or lift as an example. If you need to use the 2 mentioned option to reach your destination, do you think you will choose to climb up with staircase or lift? Hahaha...Of course I will choose using lift or escalator to reach my destination.

Another technology that conquers in our life is Electronic Mail box , so-called Email. In the pass, we need to have pen or pencil, paper (some even with fragrant) and stamp to write a mail and then only post it by dropping it in Mail Boxes and wait for few days or months only our mail will be received. But today, with email, what we need to do is just type any words and with few clicks, our email has been sent and in a few seconds it will be received. Thumbs up! But in some occasion, I still prefer the “traditional method” of writing a mail whereby the “hard copy” kind of way as it shows we value the friendship, love and time by preparing the letter.

Not sure any one of you likes to drink beer? For myself, I seldom drink beer but sometimes I did drink at home. All the items (including the tree, the trunk, the floor etc) in the playground are made by one kind of “soft” material that can avoid children from getting hurts while they are happily playing around.

Although it is just a playground, but it is built with a “concept” and also the “material used” is what we have no chance to explore it in Malaysia.

My wife likes to do gardening but too bad we have no land for her to own her garden due to we stay in an apartment. So, she can only plant potted flowers and some potted vegetables like chili, tomatoes and edamame at our balcony.

I still remembered, in year 2005 my wife and I, we have a business trip to United States, we visited Goldsmith Seeds. At there, the flowers are blossom beautifully turns the whole atmosphere so colourful. There are so many types of flowers that we never seen before like the plant species that growing in low temperatures and we both were so attracted by those flowers. We are resides in tropical country – Malaysia, so tropical flowers are not really attracts us anymore...hah!

My wife wanted so much to buy back some of the flower’s seed but advice from my friend, it is better not to buy because we might get stuck in airport custom check point. Not to worry because now we can purchase the seeds online.

I’d like to share with all my friends about “Island-view” wallpaper. These are my dream – the places that I wanted so much to visit to! Hopefully, my dream will come true one day. I still remembered, few years back Lor Mee and I went to Redang Island, East Malaysia. It was a wonderful trip. We were snorkeling on the crystal clear sea water with 15m depth. We can see all those beautiful and colourful fishes, turtle and corals.

1) Do use coloured-glass vases, not clear ones. The darker the container, the harder it is for that unsightly, smelly slime (actually algae) to grow. Be sure containers are scrupulously clean.
2) Do cut dried stem bottoms immediately before putting them in water.
3) Do use a commercial floral preservative. Homemade concoctions don't work as well.
4) Do clean the vase, completely replace the water and add new floral preservative every three days.

5) Don't shock flowers with cold water. Cut stems respond best to warm water (about 43 degrees).
6) Don't put flowers near a bowl of fruit, especially apples, pears and plums, which emit ethylene gas that causes wilting.

These are our last weekend dinner. My wife and I dine at one of the seafood restaurant with the nickname as “Under the Tree” near Penang Jetty. Well, foods that we ordered are soft-shell crabs, Fried broccoli and Fried Spicy Clam. Yummy! It is delicious.

Fried Banana or "Goreng Pisang"

Fried banana or Pisang Goreng (in Malay words) is a snack food mostly consumed especially in morning and afternoon. My wife and I are the big fans of "goreng pisang". We bought these at roadside Malay stall. Yummy! Oh yah, would you like to have some? Here you go...

Ingredients:

100 g rice flour; 30 g plain flour; 1 level tbsp sugar; ¼ level tsp salt; 150 ml water; 1 bunch cooking bananas and oil for deep frying.

Method:

In a small mixing bowl, combine the rice and plain flours, sugar and salt. Stir in the water to make smooth batter. Peel bananas and cut into halves lengthwise. Heat the cooking oil in a wok or saucepan over medium heat. (Oil should be about 4 cm deep.) When hot, dip the bananas into the batter and slip them into the hot oil. Fry a few pieces at a time until golden brown on one side and then turn over to brown the other. Serve warm.

The Hippopotamus

The hippopotamus has the biggest yawn in the animal kingdom. It is one of the most dangerous animals in Africa. Females are especially aggressive when they have young. As well as seeing off predators, females have to protect their young from being bullied by grumpy males. Mothers teach their young to stay close, giving them a head butt or a nip if they wander off track, and if a mother needs to leave the creche for any reason she places her calf with a female baby sitter.

Hippopotamus live in groups of 15 or more females and subordinate males, governed by a dominant male. He will scare off any challengers by opening his mouth very wide and showing his enormous 50cm long canine teeth. It is an awesome sight, since the hippopotamus has by far the largest mouth of any animal outside the oceans.

Seal Pups' Snowy Den

The ringed seal of the Arctic Ocean is the only seal that builds a den. At the onset of winter, a mother seal excavates a lair under the snow. Snug inside during the worst of the weather, she gives birth. She suckles her pup with fat-rich milk for one to two months until it has put on enough blubber to keep it warm in the icy water. A female ringed seal might make several snow caves, and should a hunting polar bear intrude, mother and pup can dive through an escape hole and flee to a safer den.

Yesterday after back home from office, take my bath and take my dinner, then straight went out to Sunshine Square to do our groceries. Well, my wife is looking for any cocoa drinks and we both decided to try out Oligo Coco. One big packet consists of 15 small packets like above pix. Wow, this is the first time I try it and it is really taste good.

Chapped Lips

The lips may easily become chapped and sore, especially after exposure to hot, cold, or windy weather. They are particularly vulnerable to chapping because, unlike skin elsewhere, they are no sebaceous (oil producing) glands and therefore lack a protective oily barrier.

Constantly wetting the lips is also likely to cause chapping. As the saliva dries, it can irritate the lips and increase their soreness. Always protect our lips against dryness by applying lip balm or salve. Or applying a little olive oil which has shooting properties and makes the skin more supple.

My 2008 Birthday Cake

July 19 is my big day. My wife, my sister and I, we planned to celebrate my birthday at Thirty-Two Restaurant. My sister was the one who arranged the table reservation and others.

When the day comes, as usual I picked up my sister and her two-year old daughter, Chloe at their house and we straight away ahead to Thirty-Two. We reached our destination, we find our seat, ordered foods and beverages, we chats a lot, really have fun on that day.

While I was away from the table to bring Chloe to have a short walk, when I came back to my table, I was so surprised that the pianist is singing the Happy Birthday song for me and the waiter is placing down a lovely birthday cake right in front of my table. Wow! I was so touching and surprising!

I’m really happy on that day, thanks to my wife, my sister and little Chloe to make my birthday a special one.

Soya Drink

This is the soya drink’s brand that I love most. Its taste good, smell good and the soya milk is kind of a bit thicker than other brands. Sometimes I will just buy a carton (12 bottles) back to keep in my fridge...hah!

Ice-Cream

Since my mother is paying us a visit in Penang, we (myself, my wife, my sister and little Chloe) decided to bring her to Queensbay Mall for shopping. After we all feel tired of shopping and wanted to have a short rest, Haagen-Dazs ice cream’s corner is the one that attract our attention.

We ordered Fondue Ice cream because it is suitable for us (4 adults and 1 little kid) to share with. We dipped the ice cream balls or fruits into the melt chocolate and then right into our mouth it goes...yummy!

Well, this is the most expensive ice cream that I have been eaten in my life. It cost us around RM100 per-set.

2007 Year End at Explanade

Today, my wife and I went to Esplanade to have our supper at the hawker center. Right after our supper, we both walked to the Esplanade’s field area to look at people rehearsal on the concert show for celebrating New Year count down (1st Jan 2008). We listened a few numbers of songs before we decided to go back home. And I managed to capture some photo using my cell phone N80i. Here you go.

November 2007, my wife and I drove to KL for holiday. One day, right after we have a long shopping, we started to feel tired as well as hungry. So, what we need to do next is to find a restaurant to dine in and have a good rest there. And Jogoya Japanese Buffet Restaurant is what we selected. It is located at Star Hill, Kuala Lumpur. Jogoya is actually a Taiwan based company, having a number of branches in its country of origin, a very successful and recognizable name there. Stepping in their newest establishment brought a sense of awe. The place is simply huge, with capacity of over 550 guests, and the buffet selection at least 4-5 times bigger than Avanti at Sunway Resorts.

This restaurant has huge selection of choices.

There are numerous buffet lines, the Japanese sushi and sashimi station, Chinese dishes, dim sum and seafood soup, western seafood, Indian delicacies, Japanese food and stir fry seafood, juice and drinks, and desserts. There is enough selection for every picky eater. If yourself only try each item a spoonful, you can probably still feed her 5 times over before repeating with the first item, FA, maybe 10 times.

Start off with some Japanese seafood, sashimi and tempura.

I started out with some awesome sashimi including sake(salmon), amaebi (sweet shrimp), and surf clam, worked my way through some raw oysters and oyster soup, then came king crab soup, some fried clams, stuffed crab with shrimp and butter, and salmon roe hand roll. Not to be outdone, tried some French style fried butter prawn, shrimp tempura, fried pamphlet fish, and even tom yam soup. By the third hour or so, I was feeling pretty stuffed, ended the meal with some “gwai leng gou” as desserts and a cup of cappuccino to wash away the taste of watermelon, guava, and honeydew juice that I had. You will feel extremely fresh when try on sashimi.

This is the seafood and some awesome soup.

Overall it was a very good dining experience. The price is range from RM 68++ (for late lunch) to RM 88++ (for lunch). The variety and quality of food is worth it all. We actually dine in that restaurant for almost 3.5 hours (due to it is weekday). But, if you go during Saturday and Sunday, you are only allowed to dine for max. 2 hours.

Jogoya is located at 3rd floor, Star Hill Gallery. Business hour is from 11am to 2am; call them at 03-2142 1268 if you want to reserve a table.
